Radeon HD 6000-series coming in 2010
ATi has confirmed plans to begin releasing the successor to the
current 5000-series Radeon
GPUs.
“We remain on track to bolster our GPU leadership with the
introduction of our second-generation DirectX 11 graphics products
later this year,” said Dirk Meyer, chief executive officer of Advanced
Micro Devices in an interview with xbitlabs.com, “We will start introducing the
second-generation of our DX 11 products before the end of the year.”
ATi has always launched the high-end of a new graphics generation
before releasing mid-range and budget cards, and there’s no reason why
the company would change its strategy this time: “This was the second
straight quarter of record GPU shipments… we have shipped nearly 16
million DX11 GPUs to date. In the second half of the year, we expect GPU
demand to remain healthy and supply constraints to ease.”
Owner AMD already has a smaller GPU manufacturing process in the
pipeline, so don’t be surprised to see 35 or even 28nm cores before the
6000-series has run its course.
