3DMark 11 coming soon
FutureMark, the brains behind the most widely used gaming benchmark
apps in the world (and let’s not forget Shattered Horizon), has recently
announced a brand new addition to the 3DMark family – 3DMark 11. In case
the name doesn’t give it away, it’s designed to test the DirectX 11
capabilities of your gaming kit using a custom built engine designed at
FutureMark HQ in Finland.
The first glimpse of the new benchmark is Deep Sea. Using volumetric
lighting, tessellation and no shortage of post processing the trailer
shows a deep sea submersible exploring the sea floor. It doesn’t sound
like much fun, granted, but the trailer makes for some pretty tasty viewing.
“For over 10 years 3DMark has shown gamers what to expect from the
next generation of real-time 3D graphics,” said Jukka Mäkinen,
Futuremark CEO, “So we are especially excited to announce 3DMark 11 and
show the possibilities of DirectX 11 with the release of the Deep Sea
trailer.”
Though the benchmark isn’t expected to touch down until the ‘third
quarter’ (whatever that means), the hardcore few will be able to get
their first glimpse of 3DMark 11 at this years Computex in Taipei, from
the 1st of June on the MSI booth.

Here’s hoping they use the engine to develop another cracking game…
