Valve Unbans Thousands of MW2 Players
Valve has restored access for over 12,000 Steam accounts after they were mistakenly banned from playing Modern Warfare 2.
According to an e-mail response sent to users from Valve President Gabe Newell,
and later confirmed to IGN, the company's anti-cheating software built
into its Steam service randomly began banning undeserving players over
the past two weeks.
"The problem was that Steam would fail a signature check between the
disk version of a DLL and a latent memory version," said Newell. "This
was caused by a combination of conditions occurring while Steam was
updating the disk image of a game."
Along with an apology, Valve has also given those affected a free copy
of Left 4 Dead 2 along with an extra copy to give to a friend.
